6 Reasons Why You Need To Listen To The Doors Music

guitar

Have you heard the music of one of America’s best rock bands, The Doors? This timeless band first came to the attention of the international music industry in the 1960s and 1970s. But, since then their popularity hasn’t stopped, while the band is no more, today many people worldwide still listen to them.

If you’re not one of the many, then there’s a lot of reasons why you should. Keep on reading to know why you should listen to this epic rock band.

6 Top Reasons To Listen The Doors

If I were to state all the reasons to listen to The Doors band, it would take a few articles to cover. Therefore to save you time, here are some of the best reasons:

1. They Infuse A Lot Of Genres

Back in the day, The Doors were one of the most creative bands to infuse multiple genres into their songs in one go. In the 1960s, the most popular type of music was hippy surf music or folk-rock. Instead, The Doors have a lot of influence from the jazz genre, and they combine it with rock. Therefore their music can be classed as a combination of psychedelic rock, blues rock, and acid rock. It sounds like a unique yet intoxicating mix, right?

2. Their Songs Are Long

In today’s times, when you listen to the radio or watch songs on youtube, how long are they usually for? I can guarantee that the typical time of songs lasts between 2-3:30 minutes for most artists. On the other hand, The Doors were notable for creating long melodic songs starting at 5 minutes and lasting up to 12!
Not all of the time do the entire songs have lyrics to cover each minute; however, instead, you will find some melodious instrumentals that can take you to another universe.

3. They’re Constantly Stated As One Of America’s Greatest Rock Bands

Whether you’re reading articles by The Evening Standard, The Telegraph, Ledger Note, or Rolling Stone again and again, they’re highlighted as one of the greatest rock bands of all time and one of America’s best. Part of the reason for this is that they made a massive impact on the USA and the world in just a short time frame of 6 years.

Alongside this, they sold over 100 million records worldwide across their 6 studio albums.

4. Ahead Of Their Time

If you choose to listen to The Door’s music now, you will probably be able to relate their music to many modern-day bands. For example, you may see traces of the same riffs or genres in Stone Temple Pilots, Tame Impala, Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane, The Rolling Stones and Steppenwolf.

But, this band inspired many of the bands you know today due to their weirdness and infusion of genres. Plus, they incorporated music sounds from the 80s and 90s before they were defined as sounds of those decades. Moreover, the 60s music they were inspired by didn’t make them sound like the typical music back then.

Not only that, Jim Morrison, their lead singer, scarily predicted the future of music once in an interview in 1969, he stated: “Music will merge traditionally black and white styles more fully and combine them with new technology… It might rely heavily on electronics, tapes.” Today this is what hip-hop and dance music mainly revolves on, scary, huh?

5. Jim Morrison Influenced Rock And Roll Stunts

When thinking about some of the world’s greatest rock and roll bands, not only do you think about the music, but often the chaos from their live shows that they’re known for. While you probably can recall many great rock bands pulling some controversial tricks on stage, Jim Morrison was often seen as one of the pioneers.

First of all, he was the first artist to get arrested while performing on stage. On December 9th, 1967, in Connecticut, he was discovered by a police officer while he was in a shower stall with a girl. When the officer caught him, he told Morrison to “beat it”; instead, Morrison told the officer to “eat it.”

Later on, Morrison told the audience the story that badmouthed the New Haven Police. After doing so, police came on stage to arrest him on public obscenity and indecency charges. Another time, The Doors were performing to a crowd of 12,000+ people in Miami at the Dinner Key Auditorium. During the show, the crowd became extremely restless, and it got very hot inside.

Adding to the atmosphere, Morrison was drunk and decided to take off his clothes in front of the crowd. A few months later, Morrison received a sentence for 6 months in jail and paid a $500 fine; however, his lawyer waived it off. You couldn’t get any rock and roll more than that?

6. Their Legacy

Music of many bands after they’ve had a hiatus or end to their music tends to die down due to a lack of releases. However, since The Doors began, they have become even bigger. Today you can find many writers, activists, and creative communities referencing The Doors. Plus, you can even hear their music featured in various films, TV shows, and games. Their legacy still lives on to this day.

Everything You Need To Know About The Doors Band

concert
Do you wish you could step back in time to the era of the 1960-1970s? If so, then you’d probably love to experience the hits of The Doors. If you weren’t born then, you certainly missed out on this legendary American rock group. Don’t worry though, thanks to the Internet, a large amount of tv footage, and recordings, this epic band’s compilation still survives today.

Trust me; it’s a compilation that you won’t want to miss out on. I can guarantee you’ll want to listen more often once you hear them. But, before you truly digest each lyric and riff from The Doors, it’s important you learn about them first.

Who Are The Doors?

The Doors are an American rock band founded in the 1960s that were the first to achieve eight consecutive gold LPs. They sold over 100 million records worldwide and 35 million in the USA alone between the band. The Doors consisted of Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore.

Member Profiles

Jim Morrison

James Douglas Morrison was the lead vocalist, poet, and songwriter of the band who triggered a lot of influence and contributed to the band’s success. He was born on 12/08/1943 and died on 07/03/1971 from a drug overdose.

Ray Manzarek

Another vocalist of The Doors and keyboardist was Ray Manzarek, born on 02/12/39; he was an active member from 1965-1973. He sadly passed away from cancer on 05/13/2013.

Robby Krieger

Robert Alan Krieger, born on 01/08/1946, was the guitarist of the rock band and helped contribute to the songwriting process.

John Densmore

The drummer of The Doors was John Densmore, born on 12/01/1944, who appeared in pretty much every recording the band made. The rock and jazz genre inspired his drumming talent.

Where Did The Doors Get Their Inspiration From?

If you’re unfamiliar with this band’s music or contribution to the industry, you might be confused why they have such a random name. The truth is, their name isn’t that random; their name came about due to Jim Morrison finding inspiration from Aldous Huxley’s book Mescaline relating to psychedelic drugs, in particular LSD.

While all band members contributed a lot to their fame, the main inspiration came from the band’s lead vocalist Morrison and supporting vocalist and keyboardist Manzarek. Ever since they first met on Venice Beach in 1965, they recognized each other from attending the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television.

After a shared connection, Morrison shared personal songs he’d written with Manzarek, who was equally inspired thinking about how he could play in accordance with the lyrics and encouraged him to write more.

How Did The Doors Become Famous?

Before The Doors was listed in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, they began gaining a significant amount of popularity in the USA in the 1970s. The reason behind this was that in LA, the most common types of genre were surf music or folk music. The Doors music was mainly jazz inspired, with a rock influence, and had organ riffs.

With the fusion of music from other genres, people got talking and interested, straying away from the common genres at the time. Many people thought that the music The Doors created was far beyond the head of their time, inspiring audiences with their creative lyrics.

Alongside this, The Doors lead singer Jim Morrison unintentionally got the band a lot of media attention. He became later known for certain stunts he would pull on stage, like getting arrested for exposing himself while performing in Miami.

The Doors Hits

For many fans, The Door’s music can be difficult to categorize in terms of the best album or single for them. After all, The Doors had 9 studio albums, 6 Live albums, 21 compilation albums, and 23 archived albums released. However, out of them all, the five most popular Doors songs are:

  • Light My Fire, Album: The Doors (1967)
  • This song comes from their debut album and is 7 minutes long. The majority of this song was written by Krieger, who wanted to write a piece about fire, earth, air, and water.

  • The End: The Doors (1967)
  • The End became so well known because the song goes on for a disturbing almost 12 minutes. Part of the reason it’s disturbing is the song lyrics reflect a haunting nightmare filled with paranoia related to the apocalypse.

  • Break on through to the other side: The Doors (1967)
  • One of the main reasons this song became popular is that it repeatedly referenced drug use using the lines “She gets me high.” As it became popular, this line got censored and started causing a lot of controversy due to the lyrics.

  • L.A Woman: LA.Women (1971)
  • There are many reasons why this song became well known; one of the main ones was that the song’s name was an anagram for a woman called Linda Ashcroft, with whom Jim Morisson had an affair.

  • People Are Strange: Strange days (1967)
  • In comparison to their self-titled debut, People Are Strange gained attraction due to incorporating hippie idealism and nostalgia from the pre-war.

Conclusion

Overall, The Doors in their time were a highly influential band around the world and still are today. In addition to getting a lot of radio play, this band gained popularity for their songs that weren’t played on the radio.

Their lyrics, music, and long songs made them a band that is timeless and unique to listen to. This rock band will take you to another dimension in your mind with their music; their songs are like no other.

The Jim – Jimi Connection

Jimi Hendrix – Guitar on FireI’ve already said that The Doors is one of my favourite bands and today I’ll share with you another of my musical preferences. Do you know who that might be? I’ll give you a clue…

Imagine you’re forming a 1960s dream rock band in the USA. You’ll take the most iconic frontman, Jim Morrison obviously, but you’ll also need a guitar virtuoso. Now, who’s the greatest guitarist of the 20th century? If you answered Jimi Hendrix, you got it right. And it’s not just my opinion. It’s one of those things experts and musicians agree upon.

Though I have a friend who could argue 24/7 that Steve Vai is a better guitarist than Jimi and there are some others who’d list a dozen of jaw-dropping guitar players from contemporary technical death metal bands, Jimi is in a league of his own. It’s not that he was bluesier than Eric Clapton or faster than Eddie Van Halen but he paved the way for many to follow and redefined the role of the guitar player.

Even if you’re not into psychedelic rock, you’ve probably heard one or two of Jimi Hendix’s huge hits, such as “Little Wing”, “Purple Haze”, “Foxy lady”, “Voodoo Child” and “Hey Joe”. A remarkable performer, the master of the whammy bar and the wah pedal made a show out of every concert. In my mind’s eye he’s kneeling by his 1965 Fender Stratocaster, summoning the spirit of the guitar he has set on fire. He first pulled that stunt in Europe but the act of alighting his guitar is documented in a video from the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.

When smashing guitars was a novelty, a revolutionary act that made a statement and not the everyday, desperate cry for attention it became in the 1990s, Jimi was one step ahead. Allegedly, he wanted to smash his guitar at a concert but saw Pete Townshend of The Who do it (Townshend was famous for his guitar-smashing) and wanted to outdo him. Lighter fluid, a matchbox and the rest is history.

Anyway, the Jim-Jimi connection is relevant not only because I’m a fan of both musicians. There are quite a few similarities between the two. Check this out. Jimi was born in 1942, Jim – in 1943. Jimi died in 1970, Jim – in 1971. Both died aged 27. Jimi died in London, Jim – in Paris, though both were born in the USA.

Some people believe that these two, together with Janis Joplin (1943-1970), are the first of what would become known as Club 27. Almost 25 years later, after the death of Kurt Cobain, a conspiracy theory was born that there were many popular musicians dying at the age of 27.

Whether the 27 Club is a myth or a reality, Jim and Jimi were both true legends not only because of their musical talent but because they were all-around entertainers and were not afraid to shock people. Another feature that Hendrix and Morrison had in common was their use of recreational drugs and the influence of said drugs on their music, career, and, ultimately, their life.

Timeline of Stargate

Stargate“Stargate”, as a franchise, is huge. I already mentioned that in my previous article where I mentioned that there are three movies, three live-action TV series and one animated series all set within the same universe. Gotta love it! Not even “Doctor Who” is that complicated! Sure, “Stargate” isn’t really as complex as, say, “Star Trek” (honestly, I still can’t make heads or tails of that franchise), but getting into it can be a bit daunting, to say the least. That’s why I decided to create a timeline for the series which can also act as a viewing order. Keep in mind that this isn’t going to be a timeline of events – if you want one you can check this out, but be ready to have your mind blown (and also spoiled pretty badly). Here I’m just going to outline the series and movies in chronological order while keeping it light on spoilers. Let’s get right to it!

1. The Stargate Movie (1994)

This is the beginning of the entire Stargate universe… Metaphorically speaking, of course. The movie is a fantastic place to start as not only is it the first “Stargate” thing to come out (and thus is a bit more of a self-contained story), but it also introduces many of the characters and concepts which will become key down the line. My advice to you wouldn’t be to view this as the start of a universe even if it is. Just sit down and enjoy it like a movie. If you liked it and would like to see more, keep on going. If not, then maybe you’re not going to enjoy “Stargate” as a whole.

2.Stargate SG-1 Seasons 1-7

If you’re still reading, I assume you liked the movie, which is great because there’s a whole lot more where that came from! Picking up right after the ending (more or less), the series “Stargate SG-1” is very similar in style and tone and features many familiar characters as in the movie. You can binge-watch the first seven seasons of it without any trouble whatsoever. Sure, 7 seasons may be a bit too much for today’s audiences (we’re used to having our series end at 4-5 seasons), but once you get into it the series actually flows pretty neatly.

3. Stargate SG-1 Seasons 8-10 & Stargate Atlantis Seasons 1-3

Ah, this is where it gets really complicated! For its final 3 years, SG-1 was paired up with another series, Stargate Atlantis. The two were aired back to back, and as such episodes keep referencing each other from time to time, with a healthy dose of crossovers. It’s a situation very much like the ones the shows “Arrow” and “Flash” have right now, with characters constantly popping from one into the other to the point where it might be difficult to tell who those people are if you’re only watching one show. The correct way to watch this is one episode of SG-1 followed by one episode of Atlantis, but you can be a bit more adventurous than that if you’d like.

4. Stargate: The Ark of Truth

I have good news and bad news for you. The bad news is that “Stargate: SG-1” has been officially canceled, but the good news is that the storyline wraps up with another movie! “The Ark of Truth” is pretty much a send-off to that era of the franchise, wrapping up the storyline and preparing for the future.

5. Stargate Atlantis Season 4 + The Season 5 Premiere

We’re about to get complicated again! Now that SG-1 is officially out of the way, it’s time to wrap up Atlantis! What you want to do is finish the entire 4th season AND watch the first episode of the 5th season, where some pretty major changes happen in preparation for…

6. Stargate: Continuum

“Continuum” is a pretty interesting movie not just when it comes to its plot, but also to its placement in the timeline. For the most part, it’s a standalone adventure, but it’s also got lots of connections to both “Atlantis” (obviously) and “SG-1”. It’s good stuff.

7. Stargate Atlantis Season 5

Now that we’ve got the last movie out of the way, it’s time to wrap up Atlantis!

Stargate: Universe

Honestly? My advice is to just skip this one, if you’re looking for any kind of meaningful resolution to the saga. The show was canceled after only 2 seasons, ending on a cliffhanger which is, in all likelihood, never going to be resolved, on the show or in a movie. Still, the series isn’t bad, so if you can overlook the lack of a proper ending you can go ahead and give it a shot. If you’ve made it that far, then you’re probably hungry for more “Stargate”, anyway!

What Is Stargate?

If you’re even remotely interested in sci-fi, then there’s a few names you can’t seem to be able to escape from. “Doctor Who”, for example, seems to pop up pretty much everywhere, and so does “Star Trek”, and don’t even get me started on “Star Wars”! But there’s another name that seems to be floating about even though it hasn’t been at the public forefront for years. That name, of course, is “Stargate”, which, despite its status as pretty much the underdog of the sci-fi genre, has still remained just as popular today as it has always been, in no small part thanks to its dedicated fanbase. Hell, it’s so popular that a few years ago it managed to get a physical slot AND an online slot machine! Does “Doctor Who” have a slot? I don’t think so!

Just like most franchises that have been running for over 20 years now, “Stargate” can be pretty intimidating to get into, so allow me to explain the basics and give you a basic guide on how to join the world of the ‘Gaters! The legacy of “Stargate” began with a 1994 movie titled, what else, “Stargate”. Directed by the one and only Roland Emmerich (behind some of the most famous disaster movies such as “Independence Day”, “Godzilla”, “2012” and more), it stars none other than Snake Plissken himself, Kurt Russell, and a little, scrawny and nerdy guy named James Spader who never went to do anything with his career. What? What do you mean he played Ultron and Raymond Reddington? Those guys were cool, and Spader’s character, Daniel, is not. I mean, just look at him!

Daniel from Stargate

Anyway, the plot revolves around the discovery of a device known as a Stargate on Earth. There’s numerous Stargates across space which are connected to each other and allow for easy transportation between them. In the distant past, this has allowed aliens to come visit Earth (as a matter of fact, Egyptian mythology is largely based on an alien civilization), and now we’re allowed to visit them. As you might imagine, things don’t end up being all nice and rosy. Without spoiling too much, suffice to say that while the movie wraps up its own story quite nicely, there are a few open threads related to the larger universe. So as soon as you watch the movie you should transition over to “Stargate SG1”, a TV series which ran for 10 full seasons (which sounds ridiculous in today’s age when series get to 4-5 seasons at the very most). After that it becomes a bit of a mess, as subsequent iterations of the franchise tend to contradict it. At the end of the day, what you choose to go with is up to you. If you’re finished with SG1 and would like to keep your TV habit fed, there’s always “Stargate Atlantis”, which is a show set in the same universe, but following a different plotline. There’s also “Stargate Universe”, but I don’t really recommend that one. And if instead you’d like to transition to movies then there’s “Stargate: The Ark of Truth” and “Stargate: Continuum”, both released back to back in 2008, though keep in mind that neither is as good as the original film, so if you didn’t like that chances are you won’t like them either. I hope that was at least a little helpful! Happy watching!

Introduction to Online Casinos

poker-gamesThis article is thought out to be a useful yet concise guide on online casinos. If you’re a complete beginner, then taking 10 minutes to read it might just save you hours of researching and scanning through useless articles. Here are the topics we’ll cover here:

How Do Online Casinos Work?

casino-gambling-gamesOnline casinos are websites or software platforms that offer you the chance to play real-money games remotely, via Internet connection. The player that enters the platform chooses a game to play and places a bet. Then, the game software uses a computational device called random number generator to determine the result of the game. If the players win, the software credits the winnings to their account, and if they lose the house collects the bet amount.

The Available Games

Every online casinos features hundreds of different games, most of which are video slot variations. Other types of games you can choose from are blackjack, roulette, video poker and other table and card games like baccarat, Casino Hold’em, Sic Bo, Craps, Caribbean Poker and so on. Each game is set to have such rules that in the long run the casino returns between 92% and 99% of the money wagered to the players as winnings. The percentage at which the game is set is called return-to-player percentage and is one of the most important factors experienced players take into account when choosing a game variation to play. The higher the RTP, the better for you. Of course, there are other factors to choosing a certain game out of the hundreds that are available, but this decision is mainly based on personal preference.

Casino Software and Game Developers

las-vegas-casinoThere are some casino operators that develop their own websites and software, but usually they use the software platforms of external companies which are specialized in real-money games development. The three hands-down most popular software providers are Playtech, Microgaming and NetEnt. You can learn a lot about the game selection of an online casino just by knowing which is the software provider. For example, Playtech offers both download and instant-play platforms and are the only company that offers Marvel-themed games. Microgaming, on the other hand, is the king of video slot games, while NetEnt is all about the quality.

As this is a very lengthy topic, later down the road I’ll prepare a separate, way more detailed article on casino software. For now, you just have to keep in mind that this software comes in several variations. There are download platforms, usually only compatible with Windows, which you can install and access directly from your PC. There are instant-play platforms which allow you to play directly in your browser. Then there are live-dealer platforms where you can play real-money games like roulette in the company of live dealers which you can observe via video stream – an interesting topic that I will definitely give special attention to in one of my next posts. Finally, there are the mobile casino platforms that allow you to play anywhere you go from your smartphone or tablet. Choosing how to play is mainly a matter of taste. If you like to have an easy access to the casino and you want a bigger selection of games, then the download version of the casino is the right for you. If you want to play from different devices or simply do not wish to go through the hassle of downloading and installing a new program, then you can simply play on the operator’s website. Both download and instant-play platforms usually come with a live casino attached to them, but sometimes you need to download the software to get access to the live casino. Last but not least, if you want to be able to play literally anywhere you go, then it’s smart to check out how many mobile-friendly games the casino features on its mobile platform.

Bonuses & Promotions

All online casinos offer their new players the chance to claim a cash bonus with their first deposit. For more detailed information on the topic you can visit also topcasinos.org.uk. Usually that bonus is equal to 100% of the deposit they make but sometimes it could be even more. Some casinos go as far as to offer no-deposit bonuses that the players get immediately after signing up at the casino. Furthermore, most operators have several active promotions for the regular players at all times, plus a comp point system which can secure them regular cashback. Last but not least, for the high rollers there are VIP systems which offer additional deposit bonuses, exclusive promotions and more.

All in all, online casinos offer the players many bonus opportunities, certainly more than land-based casinos, and if you know how to take advantage of them, you can actually reduce the house edge. Of course, these bonuses and promotions come with certain terms and conditions which you should get well acquainted with. As this is, again, an important topic that requires more attention, I will create a separate bonus article where I’ll cover all the details that you should take into account when choosing a casino bonus: promotion types, wagering requirements, wagering contribution of different games and more.

Customer Support

Another important aspect of every online casino is its customer support center. Every reputable casino has live chat, phone and email support available to the players 24/7. This means that if any problem occurs or you have some urgent question, there’s always someone to turn to. Out of all the methods to contact the customer support representatives of the casino you’re playing at, I recommend you use the live chat, as this is the fastest and easiest one.

Payments and Safe Cashier

If you want to play real-money games online, then you have to first register and deposit at a casino of your choice. While the registration process is always quite simple and takes no more than a minute, depositing seems to still scare the new players. In fact, depositing is usually also a pretty straight forward process, as you only need to choose a payment method that suits you, add your banking details and the sum that you want to deposit and confirm the transaction. Some of the most popular payment methods include: VISA or Mastercard credit cards, debit cards, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafecard, Ukash and wire transfer. Of course, the different casinos support different payment methods so it’s up to you to check whether or not the website you’re planning on depositing at accepts the payment method of your choice. Furthermore, the different casinos have different minimum deposit requirements, so this detail is also something that is worth informing yourself about.

As far as withdrawals go, there things get just a tad bit more complicated. See, all legal online casinos are required by law to verify your identity in order to confirm that you’re over 18 and to prevent attempts at money laundering. This is why before you are allowed to withdraw any of your winnings, you’ll be required to send a copy of a personal document and some utility bill, so that the operator can confirm your address and identity. Then, another detail that you should keep in mind is that while all deposits at internet casinos usually are executed instantly, withdrawals in most cases take between 2 and 5 working days.

Security & Trustworthiness

In order to play real-money games online, you have to present the casino operator you’ve chosen with a lot of personal information and also with your payment details. This is why probably the most important aspect of an online casino that you should take into consideration is the security of the website. All legal casinos are licensed and regulated by the gambling authority of the country where they offer their services. For example, if a company want to offer gambling products to residents in Great Britain, then they have to get a license from the United Kingdom Gambling Commission.

Furthermore, all legal online casinos undergo regular audits by independent testing agencies which make sure that the games and the software of the casino are fair and that the outcomes of each game are completely random. Not only that, most casinos publish the reports they receive after each audit on their sites, so that the players can see how much out of all the money wagered at the casino has been given back to the players in winning.

Another side of security is the one that is concerned with third parties. When you’re playing at an internet casino, there’s always a communication between your computer and the servers of the casino. Therefore, if this connection is not in some way protected, someone can intercept it and get access to all your sensitive data. In order to prevent that, all safe online casinos use a special protocol called SSL which encrypts the data that is transmitted from your computer to the casino server and vice versa.

Online vs. Land-Based Casinos

Many players are still hesitant about giving gambling sites a try when, in fact, playing remotely is more convenient and even more profitable than playing at your local casino. At Internet casinos, the games are set at higher return-to-player percentage and also the game-play is faster and more exciting. You have more game choice and a lot of bonus opportunities. And you can play anytime anywhere! So, you see, there’s no reason not to give online casinos a try, just make sure you’re playing at a reputable casino!

We’re Seeing an Online Casino Revolution in the UK

Inside the casinoYour brain is a very peculiar thing. It’s by far the most complex mechanism that human kind has ever discovered, to the point where we still, to this day, have no idea how it works or how it’s performing even the most basic functions, such as storing memories. On the other hand, it also sometimes does things that are really, really dumb, for example, it often tricks you into believing things that are not true and not believing things that are. The reason why some college sororities have such difficult ‘entrance exams’ is because the harder the entrance into a group is, the more loyal the people who do manage to enter are, even if they have literally no other reason to be loyal to it. Similarly, we more often than not really only notice change if it’s negative. If your office suddenly started smelling like wolverines in mating season, you’d notice, but if your office was smelling like wolverines in mating season before and suddenly started smelling like roses and unicorns, you’d put it out of your mind pretty quickly. That’s the reason why what I often like to call the golden age of online casino has remained mostly unnoticed by gamblers everywhere.

In 2011, the press predicted that gambling revenues would reach $183 billion by 2015. Come 2015, and we’ve reached that number in the UK alone, with the global online casino earnings far exceeding it. The casino industry worldwide is currently more profitable than the movie industry, if we take into account the costs of maintaining each. Think about that for a second – if you were an aspiring businessman with a few million dollars burning a hole in your pocket, you would get a bigger return investing in an online casino than in a Hollywood production. That is insane! If five years ago somebody told me that was the case, I would’ve assumed they’d just escaped from the mental institution down the street! And the fact that we keep on seeing new online casinos keep popping up over and over not only in the UK, but worldwide, is the clearest proof of that which we could possibly have!

But every coin has two sides, and the bad side of this particular penny is called saturation of the market. Sometimes customers may get confused over which online casino to pick out of dozens, and even guides such as bestcasinosites.net, which are often very useful in determining the, well, best casino sites, can sometimes fail to help with the inherent confusion that comes with having dozens of online casinos active in the market at all times. Still, it’s better to have options rather than to have none, and in that regard, 2016 is shaping up to be an even better year.

The Doors (1991) – Movie Review

The Doors album coverHave you ever wondered why our magazine is named “The Door”? I mean, sure, it’s a doorway to the world of online casino, but that’s a bit on the nose, isn’t it? No, the answer is a lot more discreet, to the point where I sincerely doubt that you’d guess my source of inspiration… Unless, of course, you read the title of this article. Yes, indeed – the godfather of this site is a 1991 movie based on the life of Jim Morrison, a famous musician active in the 60s. It may sound like a strange combination, considering the fact that Morrison had very little to do with online casino, and yes, in many respects it is, but so what? It’s the name of a movie I love and also one of my favorite bands, and I also love online casino, so I figured “Hey, why not combine two things that are close to my heart?”

But why do I love the movie so much? Well, to understand that, we need to examine its story first. “The Doors”, while technically being about the 60s band of the same name, is mostly about its lead vocalist Jim Morrison, played by Val Kilmer. We follow his life as he descends further and further into his rock fantasy and his drug habit, which gradually destroys his relationships with his band mates and friends. It’s a very difficult movie to watch, with every subsequent concert feeling like it might be Morrison’s last as he just keeps falling into this bottomless pit with no way out. Don’t get me wrong, the optimistic atmosphere of the 60s has been preserved in its full, nostalgic glory (keep in mind that by the time the movie came out it had been less than 30 years since Morrison last performed, so the memory of the real person was still alive in many people) and the music is absolutely great, but we all know from the very start where this is going, and it’s painful to witness.

It’s all made that much worse by the fact that, from a technical standpoint, the movie is glorious. Val Kilmer doesn’t just play Morrison – he is Morrison. I mean, just compare pictures of him with pictures of the real performer, and it’ll be extremely hard to tell the difference in both appearance and behavior. The same can be said about the concerts, which genuinely look like they’re the real deal. If you watch the movie, you’ll swear that they used videos filmed form his actual concerts rather than recreations, which is absolutely stunning. And last, but not least, this is one of the first movies shot in widescreen, which, as we all know, eventually became the norm which was used for all movies and TV shows, and even home video. Overall, “The Doors”, while not an easy movie to watch, is definitely a marvel that is worth being seen at least once.

My Personal Top 3 Online Slots

slotsHaving tried every single online casino that I’ve stumbled upon, I also have a pretty good idea about the game variations that the different sites feature. When talking about slots, I’ve tried hundreds upon hundreds of variations of this simple game of chance, and I always like trying new ones, but there seem to be three variations that I keep coming back to. Those are NetEnt’s Gonzo’s Quest and Aliens Slots, as well as Microgaming’s Jurassic Park slot. Below you can read short overviews of these three games and if you would like to try them for yourself then you should also check out which are the top slot sites at bestonlineslots.co.uk.

1. Gonzo’s Quest

I don’t know what it is exactly about this slot that always keeps me coming back for more! Maybe it’s the exciting avalanche feature of this NetEnt masterpiece which resembles a little bit a respin feature or is it the growing multipliers? I’m also always excited to get the free spins where if you get 4 consecutive winning lines using the avalanche feature you get to have your winnings multiplied by 15! Now, trust we when I say that there are not that many online slots that offer x15 multiplier, even if it’s only in the free spins mode. Ah, I almost forgot the Wilds! It’s always super nice to have some wilds to fill up your winning lines! Also, I often use the autoplay and the free spins options of the game, especially when I’m eager to get to the feature.

2. Aliens

Aliens is yet another NetEnt slot that I cannot get enough of! This is probably the best-looking and the most action-packed slot I’ve ever seen. Well, that shouldn’t be that big of a surprise given the fact that it’s based on the famous computer game of the same name. I especially love the bonus round where you get to kill some nasty-looking invaders and ultimately the Alien Queen herself! To get to that round, you just need to fill up the special bonus bar – you’ll fill up one symbol every time you have a winning combination and you’ll lose one for every non-winning spin. Have enough consecutive winning spins and you’re almost guaranteed to get to the exciting bonus round!

3. Jurassic Park

To be absolutely honest, I’m not the biggest fans of the famous Steven Spielberg movies, but boy do I love Microgaming’s slot spin on them! It’s most certainly because of the numerous different bonus features and the fact that the slot has unbelievably beautiful high-definition graphics. Furthermore, this is a 243-way slot, which means that you have a winning line as long as you have at least three symbols of the same type on consecutive reels, starting from the utmost right. Also, I must admit that I like the fact the RTP is set a pretty high percentage, 96.67% to be exact, which give you better chances to come out of a gaming session with a positive difference in your account balance. Last but not least, the game has an awesome mobile version which nowadays is a fact that no one should disregard.

Welcome to My Casino Blog!

Welcome to My Casino Blog!

casino
Hello, you, casino junkies, and welcome to my humble blog! Here, I’ll post articles with useful tips on all things online casino as well as the most interesting news from the gambling industry. But who am I to advise anyone on the matter? Well, let me tell you my story.

When the first online casinos popped up in the late ’90s I was already a regular gambler, visiting a local casino at least twice a week with friends and, occasionally, with my then-girlfriend. We always had loads of fun, win or lose, but going to the casino was no easy endeavor as it wasn’t located very near to my place. There was always the fight as to who shouldn’t drink so that they could drive and more often than not, that poor sober driver was me. So imagine how at a certain point, playing from home sounded like a paradise for me. I was, of course, very suspicious of this new development in gambling and, trust me, I’ve made my fair share of mistakes playing at the wrong online casinos, but once I got a hold of it, it became pretty obvious to me that playing online is even better than playing at a land-based casino, as you have better chances to win and you can do it anytime, anywhere, especially now that we are able to gamble from our phones. Even the players that enjoy the interaction with the dealers don’t have to sacrifice any part of the experience, as there are live-dealer casinos online where you can play in the company of croupiers that you can observe through live stream.

So, you see, during my 15 years of playing online, I’ve seen it all and I’ve accumulated a huge knowledge base when it comes to online casinos. Now, I want to share my experience with the newer players so that they can avoid the mistakes I’ve made and get to a way better start playing online than the one I had. If I manage to help even one player, this will all be worth it!
